This picture captures the feeling of Wednesday. Planning of Grumble Week felt occasionally impossible after 3 p.m. Anyway, some progress occurred, thanks to Sami.

 

 

 

 

 

And the rumors were true, I saw Jarkko the Bunny in JAMKO's Board Game Night! He was competing in Twister with Chairperson of the Representatives Tarleena Marttila. I wonder which one won..

 

 

 



 

 



Today is mostly e-mailing and I was planning to do some studies also.. In the middle of my week this day feels peacefull.

Tutorday.

Yesterday I was executing tutor interviews for international and degree tutors. It was so nice to make interviews because it reminded me of my own tutoringtime. About two years ago I was waiting my turn, nervous what the interview would be. The interview went well I guess because I was selected.

 

 

 

Tutoring has created so much content in to my live. Already at the interview I met two new people and nowadays I can consider them both as a friend of mine.  I got approximately 50 new Facebook-friends thanks to tutoring ;)

Because I got so many new friends from other tutors and tutorees I think the best way to become active in student life is to start with tutoring. The networks you create are valuable later in your life for sure. And the more people you know, more votes you can get in Representatives' elections, who knows.

With tutoring you can also develop social skills, responsibility and even leadership. Those skills are vital in your working life and with those skills you will success surely. I warmly recommend tutoring along with your studies because it will be an experience that there is no other.

 

 

And to top it all, I met my current boyfriend via tutoring. ;)

 

 

Today will be JAMKO's Board Game Night so I will post some pictures about the event later. I have heard rumours that Jarkko Pupu is going to be there also, how exciting!

Grumble Week planning, groupwork and e-mails - Sharp star for this week!

Hey all you students of JAMK! This week you will hear news and wishers from me, Heidi Tonteri, Educational Policy Trustee of JAMKO board.

This week began with a meeting with JAMKO’s Social Policy Trustee, Sami Tanttu, and we made some early planning for the Grumble Week of this spring. Communication was the keyword; how to inform students, teachers and personnel of JAMK in a way that serves everyone the best. Many things to consider, but luckily I like challenges.

After lunch was time for studying with my friend. We were able to complete the presentation of our groupwork, and what a PowerPoint we did! Something to be proud of. This day was a JAMKO office-free day so I headed home to do some more JAMKO-work, mainly e-mails and brainwork.

Now I'm checking the opening hours of JAMKO's gym and trying to find few hours of my week to be dedicated for exercising. Because I think that's one great way to take care of yourself when you have a busy life.

Jälki-istuntoa, lentopalloa ja tutorhaastatteluja!

JAMKOssa on taas tällä viikolla riittänyt tekemistä jokaiselle. Aiemmin tällä viikolla kirjoittelenkin Lähtölaukaus-seminaarista, jonka jälkeen on taas tapahtunut yhtä sun toista. 

Keskiviikkona päästiin koulutusalajärjestöjen (Konkurssi, JASTO jne.) kanssa hieman tutustumaan ja käymään läpi minkälainen tästä vuodesta on meidän opiskelijoille tulossa. Mukava oli nähdä paljon aktiivisia opiskelijoita paikalla heti näin vuoden alusta! Kiitän kaikkia osallistuneita.
Illalla oli myös vuoden 2013 ensimmäinen Jälki-istunto Public Cornerissa ja pienien käänteiden jälkeen esiintyjäksi The Eastwood Duo. Isot kiitokset Kosti Pynnöselle, sekä Arttu Hiltuselle, että pääsivät tulemaan lyhyellä varoitusajalla =)

JAMKO Caféssa oli KAJ-aktiivit keskiviikkona

Torstaina käytiin meidän HuKu-vastaavan Helin kanssa Freetimen porukan kanssa keskustelemassa tänä vuonna kolmatta kertaa putkeen järjestettävästä Naama Näkkärillä amaatöri stand up kilpailua! 

Pääsin myös ilokseni osallistumaan tänäkin vuonna tutorhaastatteluihin, jotka käynnistyivät jo keskiviikkona Saarijärvellä. Vaikka en kerennytkään osallistua kuin yhteen haastatteluun nousi nostalgiset tunnelmat viime vuodelta, jolloin hoidin kv-tutorvastaavan tehtäviä JAMKOssa. 

KOOLSin lentopalloturnaus

Perjantaina oli ohjelmassa KOOLSin lentopalloturnaus, johon otti osaa viisi joukkuetta. Pelejä pelailtiin kahdestatoista eteenpäin Rajakadun kampuksen liikuntasalissa. Voittajaksi selviytyi lopulta Iidan Pojat, onnea heille! Tarkemmat tiedot otteluista ja sijoituksista löydät täältä.

Viikonloppuna pääsi hetkeksi irrottautumaan JAMKOn asioista(ainakin luulin niin) kunnes tajusin jo perjantaina istuvani samassa pöydässä, jossa oli muun muassa kaksi vanhaa(tai vähemmän vanhaa) JAMKO toimijaa. Visiitille Helsingistä oli saapunut vuoden 2011 hallituksen puheenjohtaja Aku Aarva, sekä samaista pestiä vuonna 2006 hoitanut ja edelleen aktiivinen edustajiston varajäsen Hannu Murisoja.

Näin sunnuntai-illan kunniaksi voin ilokseni huomata, että tuli taas aherrettua viikko hommia oikein kunnolla, sekä JAMKOn toimistolla, että jossain päin Suomenlahtea.
Ei voi kuin todeta, että on tämä opiskelija-aktiivina toimiminen hienoa hommaa!

Kick start to 2013!

Last week as technically my turn to blog but I promised to write about SAMOK’s Lähtölaukaus cruise, and as it ended yesterday, I am stealing an extra day to do what I have promised.

So Lähtölaukaus is a sort of start-of-the-year-seminar for over 200 student activists from students unions across the country. It is organized, as mentioned in my last blog, the Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (SAMOK in short). All of JAMKO attended as it was excellent opportunity not only to meet the representatives of our co-organisations but also to get trained and hear what’s going on nationwide in terms of student politics.

Intense program

Despite the fact that the two days were intense, full of interesting talks and sessions related to educational policy, social policy, student wellbeing, student sports, student issues on European level etc. it was very useful and insightful. As the trusteeship secretary, learning more about the processes of what will or might happen with student financial aid or the upcoming changes in AMK (University of Applied Sciences) laws and how they will affect students all over the country.

It was my first Lähtölaukaus (or lähtis as it is more familiarly known) but there were people who were there for the fourth time! I admire their basic physical condition as the whole trip can be a bit stressful our sports and educational representatives had to take a little power nap in between two talks during the second day.

I think one of the greatest things about lähtis is seeing so many incredibly enthusiastic and active students working together towards common goals and willing to dedicate their time and put their hearts and minds into achieving their goals. It reinforces my faith in the work we do; work that is not always that easy, but ever so rewarding.

So filled with new energy and hopeful ideas, I look forward to year 2013 in the field!

Lähtölaukaus vuoteen 2013!

Hyvää tammikuuta kaikille tasapuolisesti meikeläisenkin puolesta.
Tällä viikolla kirjoittana JAMKOn blogissa on itse allekirjoittanut, eli Olli Molander.
Toimin tänä vuonna JAMKOn hallituksen varapuheenjohtajana.

Koko tammikuu ollut jo tähän asti erittäin työntäyteistä aikaa koko JAMKOn porukalle ja
pääsimme ottamaan tällä viikolla (su-ti) osaa Suomen ammattikorkeakouluopiskelijoiden liiton - SAMOK ry:n vuotuiseen Lähtölaukaus-seminaariin (viittaan tähän myöhemmin vain Lähtis nimellä). Lähtikselle osallistuvat kaikki Suomen ammattikorkeakoulujen opiskelijakunnat (joita löytyy siis 26) ja mutamia muiden järjestöjen edustajia, jotka tavalla tai toisella tekevät yhteistyötä opiskelijakuntien kanssa.
Kolmen päivän seminaarissa on esittelyjä, perehdytystä ja verkostoitumista muiden kanssa.

 Itse olin risteilyllä toista kertaa ja olikin mukava nähdä vanhoja naamoja muilta paikkakunnilta joihin oli viime vuonna tutustunut. Tietenkin oli myös hieno huomata, että uusia ja aktiivisia toimijoita on sitäkin enemmän mukana rikastuttamassa opiskelijakuntien toimintaa!

Risteilyt ovat tunnetusti rankkaa puuhaa, etenkin kun istuu keskustelemassa isoista asioista, jotka koskevat kaikkia ammattikorkeakouluopiskelijoita. Isoimpina teemoina tänä vuonna olivat mm. AMK-uudistus(ammattikorkeakoululakiin tehtävät muutokset), jota ollaan tänä vuonna ajamassa läpi, sekä YTHS (Ylioppilaiden terveydenhoitosäätiö) -kokeilu, jossa pyritään saamaan kaikille opiskelijoille kattavat tukipalvelut. Kiinnostavia juttuja, mutta en nyt tässä pitkästytä kaikkia pohtimalla niitä, mutta tietysti mielelläni kerron asiasta lisää kaikille kiinnostuneille!

Tänään tuon pienimuotoisen risteilemisen jäljiltä oli kiva palata toimistolle hyvin rentoutuneena ja uutta intoa puhkuen. Työ huraa! -seminaari vei tänään aamupäivän ja siellä katselin hieman hämmentyneenä modernin taide-esityksen aivojen toiminnasta. Vedin edellämainitun shown jälkeen johtopäätöksen, että meikällä toi vasen aivopuolisko taitaa olla niskan päällä. 

Myöhemmin tällä viikolla lisää tekstiä muun muassa koulutusalajärjestön tapaamisesta ja Jälki-istunnosta!

Bombs, DISCs, games, arts and crafts, fun and games...just a normal Friday afternoon.

JAMKO's office is comprised of 14 very unique, but also very different people. To work in the office in a way that that we all understand each other and work smoothly together, takes a little time and effort from all of us. This is especially true at this time of the year when almost half the people have changed with the new board. That's why we spent the entire afternoon yesterday in training together, doing group exercises and, basically, getting to know one another.

So what happened? Chaos! Well, not really, but close. The day started with one of the former JAMKO Chairs (in 2008) training us all in DISC assessment. This is basically a personality assessment tool based on four types of trait categories: dominance, inducement, submission and compliance (if you need to know more, google it). During the exercise we analysed ourselves and each other based on the four categories. It was a good exercise because it really taught us more about each other and our ways of working. It helped e to understand what are the best ways of approaching the members of JAMKO team.

After the official training, we got to play games! Yay! Our tutor and sports secretary is a pure jewel when it comes to being goofy and making people relax. We played painters and supermodels, used fruit to describe ourselves, built towers from paper, and defused a BOMB! The story was that terrorists had decided to hit the school with a bomb and it was up to the JAMKO Bomb Squad to defuse it and save the day. Half the team was also suffering from some chemical weapons because they were blind and incapable of speaking. To JAMKO's credit, they managed to defuse the bomb without the entire school exploding.

Tomorrow we will be heading to the start of the year seminar "Lähtölaukaus" by the Unions of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (SAMOK) where the entire JAMKO office will be trained in everything possible going on in Finland as a whole in terms of student issues and politics. It will be an early start so I will leave you for now and will write again either from the train tomorrow or once we are there.
